In working with some of the nation’s other trusted consumer organizations, the CCC has the opportunity to provide the consuming public with the information they need to remain safe and informed in an ever changing marketplace.

  • Mission: Dedicated to promoting the ongoing enjoyment and preservation of traditional and contemporary folk music, dance, crafts and lore in the North and South Carolinas Piedmont area.

    Members perform services to help inform the public, in particular local communities, of the traditions of American Folk heritage and share information through support by community members, sponsoring of performances and workshops in all traditional folk areas. These workshops provide educational material and resources, and generally encourage a renewed enthusiasm and sensitivity for folk tradition.

    The association also organizes, manages, and presents cultural, educational and artistic programs, performances, exhibits, and festivals for the entertainment and profit of the public.

• NAMI Charlotte (National Alliance on Mental Illness)

  • Membership eligibility: Voting members of the Charlotte chapter of NAMI are eligible.
  • Mission: Their mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families living with mental illness through advocacy, education and support. Members include individuals suffering from mental illness, family members of the mentally ill, professionals in the mental health field and concerned citizens.

  • Reasons to join:

    Services include education and awareness programs, providing job training and teaching life skills to the individuals and their families, and providing support groups for the challenges that are faced by those with mental illness and their families.

    They seek to connect the families with additional resources and other support groups to assist them as they cope and function with mental illness.

    In addition, they partner with Lens Crafters to purchase eyeglass vouchers, at a 50% discount, which are donated to individuals with mental illness.

  • Mission: We are like-minded individuals who wish to protect and preserve an honored and honest way of life that once laid the foundation for American ideals and practices. We are families working to teach our children leadership, independence, and self-sustainability. We are single parents struggling in this economy to provide the best we can for our children. We are retirees looking for ways to extend our fixed incomes and who love the farming way of life. In other words, we are just like you. We are the heart and soul of America.

    The Hobby Farmers Association of the PEE DEE strives to be an effective and sustainable organization focused on educating the public on the “how and why” to buy local or better yet, grow their own food as a community now and for generations to come.

    They also include educational activities at each of their monthly meetings. In addition, they advocate for or against various laws, bills or agendas that will affect the farming community.

    This association mirrors the Credit Union philosophy of “people helping people.” They promote learning from members and sharing resources. For example, members operate in a cooperative manner and may share various pieces of farm equipment or farming knowledge.

  • Mission and purpose: The mission of the Senior Citizens Association is to provide a full range of services to Florence County’s Senior Citizens.       Active Membership is for any person age 50 and over. This membership includes use of the Senior Center, newsletters, the annual membership luncheon, and opportunities to participate in activities and classes at a reduced rate. This does not include the use of the building for private events and/or functions.

    • Sustaining Membership: $35.00 annually

      Sustaining Membership is available for any person between 18–49 years of age who pays the annual dues. This membership includes newsletters, the annual membership luncheon, and participation in activities at the senior center for up to four times per year. This does not include the use of the building for private events and/or functions.

    • Life Membership: $250.00 for age 60+; $125.00 for age 70+

      Life Membership is a one-time fee and includes all benefits of an Active Membership.

  • Reasons to join: Membership in SCA has many advantages. For a minimal fee per year, members have access to Senior Center Fitness Centers, monthly activities and classes geared toward seniors, and annual SCA member events. Additionally, members are helping to provide vital services to our local seniors in need including Meals on Wheels.
  • Community outreach: Community outreach includes Meals on Wheels, Senior Fitness Center, housekeeping and assistance with shopping, and other tasks on a need basis or paid, Alzheimer’s Support Groups, literacy classes and activities. They also have 6 Group Dining Sites in the county to provide hot meals and social interaction for emotional, physical and mental health.
