Cameron Kane and Kara Ball visited Burns Middle School again as part of Cleveland County’s Communities in Schools Program. This is only one of several visits our Sharonview team’s made to Cleveland County schools to introduce financial literacy, decision making, and life skills with students through interactive games and class discussions.

We had a blast with the students from North Rowan High School at their annual career fair. It’s the second one Sharonview has participated in and it was a great opportunity to talk to student about financial literacy and potential careers in the credit union industry!
February Personal Supply Drive for the Carolinas
February, 2024
Throughout the month of February our organization collected much-needed personal items to donate to a variety of non-profit organizations across the Carolinas. Each branch donated to a charity in their region to ensure the efforts stayed close to home and helped the immediate communities.
We were pleased to work with organizations like the United Way of Gaston County, Southeastern Carolina Crossroads, Families Forward Charlotte, Deep Well Bluffton, Fayetteville Urban Ministries, and more! Our total donations totaled over 1,000 items, with some branches collecting over 500 items for their selected charity!
January Supply Drive for Safe Alliance

As part of our ongoing initiative to serve the communities in which we live, work, and play, Sharonview’s Consumer Loan Servicing Team hosted a supply drive for Safe Alliance's Clyde & Ethel Dickson Domestic Violence Shelter. The shelter serves families and adults in Mecklenburg County who are in imminent danger due to a domestic violence situation. The facility offers support services like counseling, advocacy programs, life skills services, and children's programs, and is conveniently located to public transportation access. It was truly an emotional experience to be able to help individuals and families in need.
Rock Hill Schools Education Foundation Bike Donation

Earlier this week, Sharonview partnered with Rock Hill Schools Education Foundation and nonprofit Palmetto Impact SC to donate over 80 bicycles and scooters to school custodians to give to their children and grandchildren this holiday season. The foundation's Executive Director, Megan Paat noted in an interview with CN2 News that it's important to remind our school's service workers just how appreciated they are. She also said that Sharonview and Palmetto Impact, the organization founded by Sharonview’s Brandon Allen, was integral to making this donation successful.
God's Goods Church of the Cross Food Bank

The Bluffton Branch recently stopped by the food bank at God’s Goods Church of the Cross in Bluffton to help fill bags of food for over 120 families during the holiday. By the time they got there in the afternoon, over 300 families had been impacted by donations! The food bank’s motto is “Each One, Reach One,” which was a perfect way to express the importance of volunteering in our community.
Lancaster Chamber Mix and Mingle

Our team had a wonderful time at the Lancaster Chamber’s Mix and Mingle event at INSP. Melody Prestifilippo, Brooke Sager, Anthony Stonehouse, and Angelica Figueroa joined Lancaster businesses and community leaders for an evening of networking, conversation, and collaboration. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the community around us and how Sharonview can be a part in the success of our local businesses.
Communities in School Cleveland County

We love our partnership with Communities in Schools of Cleveland County. On Thursday, December 7, Cameron Kane and Kara Ball joined students at Burns Middle School in Lawndale. They worked directly with lesson plans developed by the teachers to incorporate a Jeopardy!-style game into the lesson. Specifically, the game was focused on budgeting, credit, and general finance.
A special moment of the day was listening to students talk about their career aspirations. This included a deep-dive into how students can achieve their goals—what resources did each student need to reach their unique goals? With off-the-wall questions, college aspirations, and developing contingency plans, we’re confident these kids will be well prepared for any path they take in the future!
Gaston Business Association (GBA) Holiday After Hours 2023

Specialty Product Technologies (SPT) Wellness Week

The Sharonview Bladen Branch was invited to speak on financial wellness at the Specialty Product Technologies (SPT) Wellness Fair. This two-day event with the SPT employees served as a great opportunity to discuss the importance of financial literacy from all aspects. Our teams learned about employees’ unique concerns and challenges, and discussed how Sharonview products and services might benefit their long- and short-term goals. We’re excited to continue a monthly partnership with this organization to strengthen our relationships with members of the community.
Lancaster Chamber of Commerce "Feed the Funnel" with The Pack Shack

Angelica stopped by the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce to pack meals for Feed the Funnel, a program through The Pack Shack. The Pack Shack is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to increase awareness about food insecurity, help communities and those in need by providing nutritious meals, and inspire others to be neighborly. At this event, Angelica and the volunteers with Snider Fleet Solutions packed over 40,000 to distribute in the community!
Indian Land Chamber of Commerce "First Light"

Our RedStone Branch, along with our Member Business Services Team and Business Services Manager, Chris Knox, hosted members of the Indian Land Chamber of Commerce for “First Light.” The monthly networking event offers business owners, community leaders, and others a chance to collaborate, inspire, and involve themselves in the local community. The Independence Fund

In the spirit of the holidays, Ross and Meghan provided Thanksgiving meals to our community’s veterans through The Independence Fund’s “Feeding Charlotte” campaign. The Independence Fund serves the veteran community by offering programs and services to support all aspects of well-being, including mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional. This was a great opportunity for us to support our servicemen and women, and further Sharonview missions of alleviating hunger and advocating for mental health awareness.

Cameron, Jason, Jared, and Britt had the pleasure of attending the United Way of Cleveland County’s annual charity golf tournament: FORE A PURPOSE. It’s one of the largest tournaments in the area and this year’s event raised over $79,000 and featured over 120 players! These funds will support over 20 agencies throughout the year that United Way partners with.

YMCA of King's Mountain Golf Tournament

Sharonview team members Kevin Hughes, Michael Schultz, Ross Cranston, and Cameron Kane represented our credit union at the YMCA of Kings Mountain annual charity golf tournament benefiting the YMCA’s We Build People Campaign. The event raises funds for the YMCA’s youth and summer programs!
We also learned that the Cleveland County Family YMCA recently started working with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which is a federal nutrition education and meal reimbursement program. This program has helped hundreds of children and families in the Cleveland County and surrounding regions.

Due to the impact of Sharonview’s summer program with Cleveland County Schools, Ms. Montgomery from Burns Middle School invited us to her classroom! Cameron Kane, Kara Ball, and Kelton Graham volunteered their time to paly simple, interactive money management games with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes. Students learned how to proactively budget monthly expenses and identify the differences between Needs and Wants.
They then sat in for Ms. Montgomery’s lesson on setting students up for success by using the formula “Hope + Effort + Mentor = Success!” By setting goals and using mentorships to guide students toward their dreams, they are engaging in valuable lessons and principles for lifelong learning. We’re excited to see what these kids will accomplish in years to come!
T2 Teaching and Tutoring Ribbon Cutting

Our Bluffton Team had a great time at the ribbon cutting ceremony for T2 Teaching and Tutoring! The organization’s teachers work across a variety of subjects with students with varying needs and abilities. The specialized programs help to empower and inspire today’s youth to love learning, and makes sure students receive the support and resources they need to succeed. We were joined by the Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce and Bluffton Mayor, Lisa Sulka, in addition to other local area businesses for an afternoon for community, collaboration, and fun!

Our Shelby Branch team recently attended Jefferson Elementary School in Cleveland County for their “Suit Up and Show Up” event! During this five-day event, Sharonview team members joined doctors, architects, judges, and other area professionals to welcome children on their first week of school and share some inspiring words to start the year off right. Our team even made gift bags for all 30 teachers and included some essential items for their classrooms.

Sharonview’s Florence Branch manager, Alger Holloman, and Member Experience Representative, Dawn Matthews, recently attended the quarterly meeting for CareSouth Carolina. CareSouth is a community health center dedicated to the wellbeing of everyone in our community. Through values of trust, teamwork, integrity, and respect, CareSouth aims to provide comprehensive quality care regardless of personal circumstances.
While speaking with CareSouth employees about the benefits Sharonview can offer, Alger was approached by an employee who had taken one of her financial wellness workshops years ago! The lessons Alger imparted inspired the employee to begin saving extra money toward her bills and she’s now proudly debt free!

Our Member Engagement Specialist, Angelica Figueroa, wrapped up the week attending the Lancaster County Back to School Bash, sponsored by Lancaster County School District and Classroom Center. Local churches came together and raised $50,000 to purchase school supplies and footwear for the community’s children in need.
Seeing community individuals and businesses come together to pack over 1,000 backpacks full of school supplies was a truly emotional and rewarding experience. Moments like this demonstrate what we all can achieve when we come together for the common good!

Is it volunteering when we’re having just as much fun as the kids? Kara, Brandon, Kelton, Jason, and Cameron have been spending time with the area children for Communities in Schools, an organization changing the future of education for students in Cleveland County, NC. The program aims to remove barriers to education and connect students with the larger community for valuable experiences that will last a lifetime. Our team played some interactive games with students about how to plan for expenses and save for special wants and needs. It was a fun way to teach budgeting fundamentals!
The impact has been huge, according to the Executive Director of the Communities in Schools program of Cleveland County, who spoke with Sharonview’s Member Experience Representative, Cameron Kane, later that evening at a Chamber After Hours event. It’s amazing to see the big and small impacts we can have by investing in our youth.
